Call to Action: Help us pilot eight brand new eLearning Activities!
Within the Online Teaching in the Visegrad Region project, we have designed 8 eLearning Activities that can be used to delve into several aspects of everyday life in Czechoslovakia, Poland, and Hungary during the Cold War. These activities last 20-25 minutes, and help students understand the setting of the Cold War and put themselves in the shoes of youth in the 1950s – 1970s.

We are trying them out in the Region, but we are very interested to know if they can be used also further across Europe. For this reason, we are looking for teachers who wish to test one of our activities in their classroom, and to let us know what we should change to improve our work and make it more meaningful, engaging, and easy to use. Would you like to check out the activities and get involved in our piloting efforts? Email us at secretariat@euroclio.eu. We will be happy to get you started!

New teacher's guides are now online
EuroClio has published two teacher's guides which have been authored in the framework of the pilot initiative ‘Histories that Connect – Sri Lanka.‘ The teacher's guide  The Oral History Teaching Strategy features  how to use oral history in the classroom, along with strategies for making an oral history project inclusive to a wide variety of students. The second guide, Working with Sources in History Education, considers the different approaches to history education and its use of sources in the classroom, along with concrete examples of how to use visual sources, stamps and songs. The documents have been produced for use in Sri Lankan educational system, but are transferable to most other contexts and curricula.

In our diverse European society, we cannot escape history when seeking to understand the present in our search for a common future. One of the aims of our project “Sharing European Histories” is to disseminate innovative teaching strategies that can help young people understand the complexity and multiplicity of European history.  Our new, Italian, translation of Teaching Strategies (“Condividere le storie degli europe”) is now online!

You can find it on our website alongside 9 other languages->
In this episode we talk to Barry van Driel, President of the International Association for Intercultural Education and Juraj Varga, EuroClio Board Member and Chairman of the Centre for Education and Innovations (CEDIN) about place-based learning. Why and how do we do it?  How does it differ from traditional approaches to learning history? How can students become more engaged in community activities? Both Barry and Juraj are involved in EuroClio projects taking history outside of the classroom.
